oingift.com review: what you get in a personalized 2D game
Updated: · Disclosure: oin is our own product.
oingift.com sells one product: a personalized 2D pixel game built around the person you are giving it to. This review covers what is in the box, what is not, what it costs and who will enjoy it, so you can decide before you pay.
What you get
A short pixel game in the browser. The main character is generated from an authorized photo of the recipient, two letters from you sit at the start and end, a 5-question quiz runs through the levels and every correct answer rewards flowers. Up to two custom NPCs, made from authorized photos of people who agreed to appear, can join the story.
The final level is set in Almaty, Kazakhstan. New York and Tokyo final levels are coming soon.
What is good
It is specific to one person, which is the point: the quiz and letters are yours, so no two games read alike. It is delivered as a link, usually within an hour, so it works for last-minute gifts and for people in other countries. The recipient needs nothing but a browser.
What to know before buying
It is a short story game, not a long adventure, and it is built from what you write: a thin quiz or a rushed letter gives a thin gift. The link stays available for one year, with a downloadable copy for keeping. It is not a physical object, so pair it with flowers or a card if the recipient likes to unwrap something.
Price
One payment of $29.90 with regional pricing, no subscription and no extras to unlock. The price you see at checkout is the price you pay. See pricing for your region.
Who it suits
- Partners, including long-distance couples, who like inside jokes.
- Friends who would rather be teased than given another candle.
- Parents, siblings and grandparents when you have good shared memories to put in the quiz.
- Anyone with a deadline measured in hours rather than weeks.
