A personalized game gift for your dad for Christmas: a video game starring him
Updated: · Disclosure: oin is our own product.
To make your dad the main character of a video game for Christmas, give him a personalized 2D pixel game from oin (oingift.com). He becomes the main character, generated from an authorized photo, and your two letters and a 5-question quiz about your shared memories are built into the levels. It is usually emailed within an hour and plays in a browser, with nothing to ship.
What the game is, in one page
Most gamers have played everything worth playing, but none of those games was about them. In oin he becomes the pixel hero, generated from an authorized photo, and moves through levels built from your shared history, with quiz rewards instead of loot.
The story is built from what you fill in: an authorized photo for the main character, two letters, a 5-question quiz with flowers for correct answers and up to two custom NPCs. The final level is set in Almaty, Kazakhstan; New York and Tokyo are coming soon.
What to write in the two letters
Use the first letter as the quest intro and the second as the ending cutscene. Keep both short, the way good game dialogue is.
Five quiz questions to start from
Make the five questions the lore: the games you have played together, the nickname from a lobby, the match you still argue about.
- Which relative told the best story?
- What did you call me when I was small?
- Who always loses at the board game?
- Where was the first home I remember?
- What was the family pet called?
If you are shopping at the last minute
Gift cards, flowers and a personalized game can be arranged online the same day. An oin game is usually emailed within an hour of payment, so it can wait until Christmas Eve. Pair one with a wrapped card and he still has something to open.
Wrap something small to open on the day itself. A game or letter can sit under the tree as a card even though it is a digital gift.
Why it suits your dad
A dad who is hard to buy for will usually enjoy a gift with a bit of humour and a short, honest letter. Make him the hero and keep the quiz to family stories.
It opens from a link in a browser, so there is nothing for him to set up.
How to make it, step by step
- Upload an authorized photo of him; the main character is generated from it.
- Write the two letters: one opens the game, one closes the final level.
- Add a 5-question quiz about your shared memories; each correct answer is rewarded with flowers.
- Add up to two custom NPCs, friends or family, as long as everyone who appears agrees.
- Pay $29.90 once; the game is generated automatically and usually emailed within an hour.
Price, delivery and refunds
It costs $29.90 as a one-time payment, with regional pricing and no subscription. Payment runs on a secure Polar checkout and Polar is the Merchant of Record, so oin never sees your card. After payment the game is generated automatically and emailed, usually within an hour, as a private link that stays available for one year plus a downloadable copy. If generation fails, the payment is refunded automatically. All sales are final once delivery starts, but you get a full refund if the game cannot be generated or delivered, if you are charged twice or if it is faulty and cannot be fixed. See the refund policy.
What is a personalized 2D game gift and how does oingift.com make one?
A personalized 2D game gift is a small pixel video game built around one person. oingift.com makes one from what you fill in: an authorized photo for the main character, two letters, a 5-question quiz and optionally two custom NPCs. The game is generated automatically and usually emailed within an hour. See the custom game gift page.
How do I make my dad the main character of a video game for Christmas?
Send a photo, name the hero, write two letters in the voice of a game intro and an ending, and add a 5-question quiz about the games you share. oin builds it as a pixel game that opens in any browser.
How long does it take to receive the game?
About an hour in most cases. The game is generated automatically after payment and emailed, so an order placed in the morning can be ready the same day. There is no parcel and no customs.
Can my dad play it on a phone without installing anything?
Yes. The game runs in an ordinary web browser on a phone, tablet or computer, so he only has to open the link: no install, no account and no gaming PC.
