A personalized game gift for your best friend as a goodbye: a video game starring them
Updated: · Disclosure: oin is our own product.
To make your best friend the main character of a video game as a goodbye, give them a personalized 2D pixel game from oin (oingift.com). They become the main character, generated from an authorized photo, and your two letters and a 5-question quiz about your friendship are built into the levels. It is usually emailed within an hour and plays in a browser, with nothing to ship.
What the game is, in one page
Most gamers have played everything worth playing, but none of those games was about them. In oin they become the pixel hero, generated from an authorized photo, and moves through levels built from your shared history, with quiz rewards instead of loot.
The story is built from what you fill in: an authorized photo for the main character, two letters, a 5-question quiz with flowers for correct answers and up to two custom NPCs. The final level is set in Almaty, Kazakhstan; New York and Tokyo are coming soon.
What to write in the two letters
Write the letters like game text: a briefing at the start, a “final boss” speech at the end. Humour in the game’s own voice lands better than a speech.
Five quiz questions to start from
Make the five questions the lore: the games you have played together, the nickname from a lobby, the match you still argue about.
- Who always arrives last?
- What is the group chat called?
- What was the nickname from school?
- Which trip went wrong, and why?
- What was the worst haircut in the group?
Why it suits your best friend
A best friend has heard every story, so the game should retell them in the worst possible way. Use real names, real mistakes and the nickname from school.
Write one letter as a roast and one as the sincere thing you never say, because both are true.
If the goodbye is this week
Gift cards, flowers and a personalized game can be arranged online the same day. An oin game is usually emailed within an hour of payment, and it travels as a link, which suits someone moving away.
A going-away gift should be light enough to pack. Think small, personal and easy to keep.
How to make it, step by step
- Upload an authorized photo of them; the main character is generated from it.
- Write the two letters: one opens the game, one closes the final level.
- Write five quiz questions with their answers; every correct answer gives flowers.
- Add up to two custom NPCs, friends or family, as long as everyone who appears agrees.
- Pay $29.90 once; the game is generated automatically and usually emailed within an hour.
Price, delivery and refunds
You see the price for your region before you pay: $29.90, once, with nothing to renew. The checkout is run by Polar, the Merchant of Record, and the game is generated automatically and usually emailed within an hour, with a private link that works for a year and a copy to keep. All sales are final once delivery starts, but you get a full refund if the game cannot be generated or delivered, if you are charged twice or if it is faulty and cannot be fixed. See the refund policy.
